Entry of Two European Parliament Members into Belarus Blocked
The entry of Robert Biedron, head of the European Parliament's delegation for relations with Belarus, and Piotr Ashutryavichus, the European Parliament's rapporteur on Belarus, has been prohibited, as reported by РИА Новости.
The European lawmakers emphasized in a joint statement that the actions of the Belarusian authorities indicate a rejection of any possibility for dialogue. “The future of Belarus is being determined these days. We call on EU institutions to demonstrate principled support for the legitimate aspirations of the Belarusian people to live in a democratic country,” the statement read.
Earlier, European Parliament President David Sassoli urged Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to cease the use of force against peaceful protesters and to release those who have been detained.
