Charges Filed Against Suspect in the Murder of a 27-Year-Old in Akhalkalak

The Chief Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has filed charges against Arthur Gabrielian in connection with the murder that took place in Akhalkalak on August 8. The charges include intentional murder and illegal possession, storage, and carrying of a firearm.

The Prosecutor's Office reported that it will appeal to the court today to select a measure of restraint against A.G. As established by the investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, during a verbal argument and subsequent physical altercation involving a group of individuals in Akhalkalak in the evening hours of August 8, A.G. shot V.M. in the chest with the intent to kill, resulting in V.M.'s death on the way to the hospital.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has initiated a criminal case under Article 225, parts one and two, for organizing and participating in a group action accompanied by violence, robbery, deliberately damaging another's property, and using weapons.

It is worth noting that around 19:00 on August 8, during a minor dispute in the center of Akhalkalak, 27-year-old Vardik Miranyan, a resident of the village of Kulikam, was killed by a gunshot, which led to unrest in Akhalkalak. Residents of Kulikam burned the properties of the shooter, A.G., including his own home, his family house, and a hotel, as well as the homes of combatants Karen Kosyan and Gena Zarmaryan.

On August 9, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia announced that during operational investigative work, hours after the incident, Arthur Gabrielian (born in 1983) was arrested on charges of premeditated murder and illegal possession, storage, and use of a firearm.

The investigation is being conducted under Articles 108 and 236, parts III and IV of the Georgian Criminal Code, which stipulates premeditated murder and illegal possession of weapons.
