Parliament's Doors Closed Ahead of Amulsar Protest
The doors of the National Assembly were closed today, August 10. Security personnel, in a conversation with NEWS.am's correspondent, stated that the closure was due to ongoing technical work.
It is noteworthy that around 6:00 PM today, a performance is scheduled to take place in the Parliament's garden in support of the Amulsar protection efforts. Participants of the protest are preparing to express their solidarity with the residents of Jermuk and surrounding communities, who have been engaged in a just and unwavering struggle for over two years.
They demand that the positive conclusion given to the Amulsar Environmental Impact Assessment in 2016 be repealed and that the exploitation of Amulsar be definitively canceled. Organizers remind that the operation of the Amulsar mine would lead to the pollution of the environment and water resources, deteriorating health and living conditions for people, and the destruction of biodiversity.
