Amulsar Defenders Detained While Playing Games in Front of the National Assembly
The defenders of Amulsar were detained a short while ago while playing games in front of the National Assembly. At the time of their detention, the participants of the action were holding onto the iron bars of the National Assembly gates and were reluctant to be apprehended. Nevertheless, the police pulled the participants away and detained them.
The demonstrators expressed their solidarity with the residents of Jermuk and nearby communities, who have been engaged in a just and unwavering struggle for over two years. They demanded the annulment of the positive conclusion given to Amulsar's environmental impact assessment in 2016 and the complete cancellation of the exploitation of Amulsar.
The organizers reminded that the exploitation of the Amulsar mine would lead to pollution of the surrounding environment and water resources, worsening the health conditions and living standards of people, and destruction of biodiversity.
