Russia Extracts Largest Yellow-Brown Diamond Weighing 236 Carats
A crystal weighing 236 carats has been extracted from the Ebelyakh mine in northern Yakutia. The yellow-brown diamond was discovered by the subsidiary of Alrosa, the 'Anabar Diamonds'.
'This is the largest colored diamond mined in Russia. The diamond measures 47x24x22mm. The estimated age of the precious stone is between 120-230 million years,' stated a press release from the main company.
Pavel Vinikhin, director of the Alrosa Diamonds branch, noted that this is a unique find on a global scale. The crystal has been submitted to specialists for evaluation. After this, the company will decide whether to send it to its craftsmen for faceting or to sell it in its complete form.
