Arman Sarkisyan Orders Investigation into Allegations of Torture against Citizen
The Human Rights Defender's Office received a hotline report yesterday concerning the alleged torture of 48-year-old Tigran Karapetyan, prompting necessary actions to be taken. Specifically, contact was established with a lawyer who claimed that his client was subjected to beatings at the police station and experienced degrading treatment.
The Public Relations Department of the Human Rights Defender's Office reports that Defender Arman Tatoyan had a telephone conversation yesterday with the Chief of Police, Arman Sarkisyan. The latter informed that he had ordered an investigation into the matter and assured that all issues would remain under his attention.
The Chief of Police also notified that a criminal case has been initiated. According to the Human Rights Defender, the issues need to be investigated directly within the framework of the criminal proceedings. By the Defender's directive, the matter will be under the attention of the Office.
