Large-Scale Drug Trafficking and False Accusation Against NSS Employees

A citizen of Armenia, in agreement with a friend, traveled to Iran, where he illegally acquired 98.37 grams of opium from an acquaintance of his friend. In an attempt to transport it back to Armenia, he concealed the substance in his body.

While crossing the Armenian state border, NSS employees subjected him to a secondary customs inspection using X-ray examination, which confirmed the presence of a cylindrical object in his intestines. Following this, he admitted the existence of narcotics within the cylindrical object and requested medical intervention to have it removed from his body.

He was then taken to a medical center, where the citizen personally removed the narcotic without medical assistance and presented it to law enforcement, which resulted in the completion of an official report.

In connection with this case, the Investigative Department of the NSS initiated a criminal case under Article 267.1 (drug trafficking) and Article 38-266 (illegal circulation of narcotics) of the Criminal Code of Armenia, where the mentioned citizen was charged and the case was sent to court with an accusatory conclusion.

However, during the pre-trial investigation, the individual asserted that he had no narcotics and claimed that the drugs found were not related to him, alleging that the personal search was carried out without legal grounds. Based on his allegations, a criminal case was opened under Article 333 (false accusations) of the Criminal Code of Armenia.

Following investigative and procedural actions conducted by the Investigative Committee, it was determined that the information presented by the individual was not accurate and that the actions of the law enforcement officers were lawful. He was subsequently charged with false accusations under Article 333 of the Criminal Code.

As a measure of restraint, detention was chosen for him. The investigation has concluded, and the criminal case has been sent to court with an accusatory conclusion.
