Tragic Accident on Dilijan-Vanadzor Highway: Driver's Grandmother Dies at the Scene, Wife Injured

Today, December 17, a major and tragic car accident occurred in the Lori region. Around 19:00, 49-year-old Grigor Melikyan was driving a Nissan XTrail with license plate 17 XT 707 when, under yet unknown circumstances, he veered off the roadway on the 6th kilometer of the Dilijan-Vanadzor highway, near the village of Fiolotov, rolling over several times and landing in a ravine.

According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan from the scene, Leyli Mkrtchyan, who was in the vehicle, died at the scene. Her body was recovered by firefighters from Lori, while the driver’s companion, 45-year-old Siranush Voskanyan, was rescued from the ravine with the help of rescuers and citizens. Medical personnel from the Vanadzor Medical Center arrived promptly, providing first aid at the scene before transporting her to the 'Vanadzor' Medical Center.

Those gathered at the site claimed that the deceased was the driver’s grandmother, while the injured individual was his wife.
