Investigative Committee on April War Circumstances Required to Hear Serzh Sargsyan

The chairman of the investigative committee examining the circumstances of the April 2016 war, Andranik Kocharyan, has proposed to extend the committee's activities for another six months.

This proposal was presented at today's National Assembly session, following a report on the work accomplished during the previous six months. "On July 9 this year, the Ministry of Defense provided the first group of documents, and detailed examinations have commenced. To date, the committee has reviewed 2,684 pages of documents, including 147 textual documents and 14 graphical maps, as well as informational, analytical, and intelligence documents, and classified military operational documents," Kocharyan stated.

He also reported that during the 21 sessions held by the committee, 10 military personnel have been interrogated. During the additional time period, the committee, according to Kocharyan, plans to hear clarifications from officials. The number of officials that will be called could reach up to 40.

"The committee is obliged to hear them, including Serzh Sargsyan, who held the position of President of Armenia at that time, because he performed the responsibilities of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief. There are questions that have accumulated during these months, are being studied, and we need final answers from Serzh Sargsyan. Before him, we will also hear from all the officials who were involved in these events," Kocharyan added.

The committee's chairman assured that political manipulation has been excluded up to this point and will continue to be excluded in the future.

It is worth recalling that the investigative committee to study the circumstances of the April War was established by a decision of the National Assembly on May 31, 2019.
