Center's New District Head is a Member of the ARF, Despite Claims of Being Non-Party

According to the "Hraparak" newspaper, Avet Poghosyan was appointed yesterday as the new head of the Center district, replacing the former head Viktor Mnatsakanyan. Although he is officially listed as a member of the ARF board on the party's website, the city hall announced that the newly appointed head is non-partisan.

Poghosyan ran for parliament in 2012 on the ARF ticket and was appointed as an advisor to the Secretary of the Security Council, Armen Grigoryan, after the revolution. The reason for presenting him as a non-party member is likely related to the recent discussions regarding the ties between Nikol Pashinyan and the ARF, which the Prime Minister also addressed, even calling Armenia’s first president a 'curse' to deny those ties.

How is it possible that, on the one hand, Pashinyan denies his connection with the ARF leader while, on the other hand, he appoints people from their team to positions? We asked My Step MP Hovik Agazaryan. 'What does a person’s professional background have to do with this or that connection? Having political ties is one thing, but offering a position to a member of a particular political force is another.'
