Possible New S-400 Agreement with Russia

A senior official from Turkey's presidency responsible for security and foreign affairs has stated that the date for the acquisition of a new batch of Russian S-400 surface-to-air missile systems is merely a technical issue, according to ermenihaber.

As reported by the British news agency “Reuters,” the Turkish official mentioned that an agreement could be signed between Turkey and Russia in the near future regarding the procurement of a new batch of S-400s.

It is noteworthy that the U.S. leadership believes that the S-400 systems do not meet NATO's weaponry standards and pose a threat to American-made F-35 fighter jets. In July 2019, when Russia completed the delivery of the S-400s, the Pentagon removed Turkey from the F-35 program.

Alexander Mikheev, the general director of Russia’s state arms exporter Rosoboronexport, recently announced that a new agreement regarding the S-400 surface-to-air missile systems with Turkey is expected to be signed in the first half of 2020.
