Armenian Embassy in Syria Issues Statement
The Armenian Embassy in Syria has issued a statement regarding the situation created by military operations conducted by Turkey in northern regions of Syria. In Damascus, the Armenian Embassy and the Consulate General in Aleppo are operating in emergency mode.
The diplomatic missions of Armenia maintain constant contact with community structures in the city of Qamishli and other northern areas of Syria. We are monitoring the developments closely. Together with the Armenian leadership in Damascus and Aleppo, steps are being developed to provide temporary shelter for our compatriots who wish to relocate from northern Syria and to offer first aid as necessary.
More than ten Armenian families from the city of Tel Abyad, which is directly in the military operations area, have already left their residences and moved to safer regions (Aleppo and Hasakah).
Currently, there is no issue regarding the immediate evacuation of our compatriots. According to our information, the number of Armenians in northern Syria is approximately 3,000.
