Belarus Lacks the Governance System of the USSR: Lukashenko

In modern Belarus, there is a noticeable absence of the governance system that existed during the Soviet years. This was stated by the country's leader, Alexander Lukashenko.

During a visit to the Vileyka district of the Minsk region, the president held a meeting dedicated to the development of trade in rural areas. The event took place at the administrative building of the regional executive committee.

Upon entering the hall and seeing the prevailing atmosphere, the president admitted that he felt a deep nostalgia. “I cannot boast that the Communist Party played a decisive role in my life. Everything has happened. But I must say, perhaps it may not sound popular to any of you, especially our youth, that today the governance system that once existed in the USSR is lacking in our country,” he noted.

“Thus, there is a problem and nostalgia. My firm belief is that we lack that governance system. I feel it the most. And anyone who cares about the state feels it. These are my feelings—not from today or yesterday,” the leader added.

Lukashenko insisted that having served as president for many years, he is better aware of the absence of such a governance system. “Serious personnel work is not enough. No matter how much I tried to build the management vertical, etc., it was still a salvation for the country and it still exists, but the structure is lacking,” he explained.
