Negotiations on Gas Pricing Continue: Deputy Prime Minister

Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan has stated that he is confident the issue of gas pricing was addressed during the meeting between the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Russia. However, he doubts that any clarity regarding the price has emerged, pointing out that the gas tariff consists of at least three fundamental components: the border price, the investment program of Armenian "Gazprom Armenia," and its current expenses.

This statement was made during a conversation with journalists at the scientific-practical conference titled "What to Do - 2 Economic Revolution: Perception and Implementation." Grigoryan discussed the potential changes in gas pricing, noting that negotiations are ongoing in three directions, resulting in what is termed the main scheme, which is still under discussion.

He added that he cannot specify a definitive timeline for the conclusion of the negotiations. "I believe it won't take long, but I refrain from mentioning an exact timeframe because negotiations are in progress, and every day brings new questions, new answers, and new elements for discussion," Grigoryan commented.

Earlier, the "Fact" newspaper reported that, according to its sources, gas prices are expected to rise from January 1, 2020, including for the population. The report suggested that the Russian side plans to increase gas prices by 38-40%, which is a significant hike likely to impact both the social sphere and the overall economy of Armenia. Sources indicate that the Armenian authorities are striving to reach a compromise in the negotiations, aiming for a price increase of no more than 20-25%.
