Yerevan State Medical University Rector Sues Health Minister Arsen Torosyan

The rector of Yerevan State Medical University, Armen Muradyan, has filed a lawsuit against the Minister of Health of the Republic of Armenia, Arsen Torosyan. This information has been obtained from the Judicial Information System.

Muradyan is demanding a retraction of defamatory statements and compensation for damages caused. The lawsuit was submitted on October 2.

Recall that on September 3, after a failed press conference, Torosyan announced via a Facebook live stream that the campaign against him is orchestrated by Armen Muradyan: "These theatrical events are not the personal initiative of Gevorg Tamamyan but are organized by Armen Muradyan, who received his position as a gift from the former authorities and is terrified that he might lose his job under this government. Once a well-known figure among influential families, he has climbed the career ladder and is now the rector of the medical university. He believes we pose a significant threat to his current position; this all began a year ago when we sought to change the composition of the university council, removing representatives of the former authorities and making new appointments, and that’s when the campaign against me started. They elected a council president (referring to composer Vahan Artzrun, Ed.) whose connection to medicine I am unaware of, although he is said to have a familial relation with the founder of the medical university, Artzrun.”

In response, Armen Muradyan accused Arsen Torosyan of lying and presented a segment of their conversation regarding the operation of the "Soldier's Home" center. According to Muradyan, during a discussion that took place a year ago, Torosyan made an unacceptable phrase. "There were 50 disabled people and 50 more will die disabled, why did you spend so much money?" said the minister, after which their conversation was interrupted, and in general, neither side can hold any stance at all," Muradyan elaborated.

It is noteworthy that Torosyan has denied the story presented by Muradyan. The head of the YSMU staff also announced that Muradyan would be suing Torosyan.
