Aggressive Behavior Displayed by Monk and Defrocked Clergymen at Geghard Monastery
The Kotayk Regional Police are preparing materials based on the application submitted by Father Guregh on September 23. According to Shamshyan.com, he reported to the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin that on September 19, around 3:00 PM, defrocked former clergymen Ghazaros Gureghyan and Armen Arakelyan visited the Geghard Monastery. They were accompanied by 4-5 individuals.
The former clergymen, wearing ecclesiastical attire without having the right to do so, attempted to perform a religious ceremony, a privilege from which they were also excluded by church regulations. Father Guregh approached them, urging calm and sobriety, and asked them not to engage in activities reserved solely for clergy.
Afterward, they displayed overtly disrespectful behavior toward the church and its servants, exhibiting aggressive conduct and attempting to incite a confrontation, thereby violating the public order and rules of the church.
