Court Rules in Favor of Citizen: Municipality's Order to Demolish Building Illegal
Two months after Haik Marutyan became the mayor of Yerevan, the municipality demolished a building owned by the company "Ani-97" located at 1/3 Gyurjian Street in the Nor-Nork administrative district in November 2018. It was officially announced that the building had been constructed without a building permit.
According to Aravot.am, "Ani-97" has filed a lawsuit and won in the first instance. The court has determined that the municipality's order to demolish the building was illegal. Aram Ohanyan, the legal representative of the owner's interests, told Aravot that this creates a basis for the owner to file a claim against the municipality for compensation of damages.
Experts state that the compensation amount may exceed 100 million drams.
