Yerevan's 'Russia' Cinema Building Among 10 Impressive Soviet Modernism Structures
The Russian RBC publication has released a list of 10 impressive buildings of Soviet modernism. The 'Russia' cinema building in Yerevan is also included in the list.
In the 1980s, the cinema was the largest in Armenia. Additionally, it housed exhibition halls, dance halls, and a café. The transparent ceiling allowed viewers to gaze at the starry sky. After the collapse of the USSR, the cinema building was left vacant; in the 1990s, it housed trade stalls, and in the mid-2000s, there were plans to demolish the cinema building. In the early 2010s, part of the building was renovated, and now it hosts a shopping center.
The list also features several buildings located in Georgia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, and various cities in Russia.
