Firefighting Operations Continue at the Foot of Mount Ararat: Five Smoldering Pockets Detected

Firefighting operations continue at the foot of Mount Ararat. This was reported by the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

As of August 25 at 11:30, 5 rescuers are deployed from the direction of Aparan city in Aragatsotn Province, and 2 rescuers from the direction of Ashtarak. There are 5 smoldering pockets present in the direction of Aparan.

It is noteworthy that on August 20 at 09:16, the "911" emergency hotline received a call regarding a fire near a sand quarry at the foot of Mount Ararat in Kotayk Province, where vegetation was burning. Two operational groups from the regional rescue department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and two firefighting teams were sent to the scene.

The total area affected by the fire in the specified area is approximately 150 hectares. Six operational groups from the regional rescue department participated in firefighting operations, along with seven firefighting units, two rescue teams from the specialized rescue operations center of the rescue forces administration (totaling 92 rescuers), and residents from the nearby villages of Saralanj (15), Ara (30), Zoravan (20), Yeghvard (15), and 20 residents from other villages in Aragatsotn Province, as well as 18 personnel from forestry.

On August 21 at 02:15, the fire was successfully contained. It was found that approximately 1300 hectares of vegetation were burning in Kotayk Province, while 500 hectares were affected in Aragatsotn Province. At 09:50, a new fire pocket was discovered on the section leading from the Zoravan village cemetery to Mount Ararat, which was contained by 18:15, and monitoring was established.

As of August 22, the total area of the fire reached 1800 hectares.
