Video: Relatives of 13-Year-Old Girl Who Died in a Traffic Accident Outraged by Driver's Release
Relatives of 13-year-old Arusyak Gevorgyan, who lost her life in a traffic accident in Parakar village of the Armavir region on July 18, are expressing their dissatisfaction with the decision made by the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction. A 51-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of hitting the girl, has been released after posting 800,000 drams bail.
In an interview with NEWS.am, the deceased girl's grandmother, Marieta Avetisyan, recounted how she learned of the incident by unexpectedly stepping outside her home. “My granddaughter called me and said, ‘Tati, I’m going to dance.’ After a while, I heard that a girl had been hit by a car. I had a feeling something was wrong, so I stepped outside and ran to see my granddaughter lying under the car. I was told that my girl had crossed through an unauthorized section, but she had actually crossed at the designated pedestrian area and hadn’t committed any violation,” the grandmother shared, adding that Arusyak had been going back and forth along that same route for dance lessons for five years.
