8 Police Officers Receiving Outpatient Treatment After Ijevan Events
The Investigative Committee reported today that an additional 7 individuals have been charged in connection with the disturbances that occurred during a protest in Ijevan. Furthermore, a warrant has been issued for another individual.
Recall that on July 17, 2019, Ijevan erupted in protest, demanding the 'legal' right to deforestation from the government of their fellow countryman, Prime Minister Pashinyan. This was suppressed by the forces of law enforcement sent to Ijevan.
Of the 7 individuals charged, 6 are being prosecuted under Article 258, Part 3, Clause 1 and Article 316, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, while one is charged under Article 258, Part 4 and Article 316, Part 1. For the latter, an alternative measure of restraint has been chosen: a signature forbidding departure from the area.
In this criminal case, one individual has been involved as an accused under Article 258, Part 4 and Article 316, Part 1. A warrant has been issued for their arrest given the lack of positive results from the operational-investigative measures undertaken to locate and present them to the investigation. They have been placed in custody as a measure of restraint.
As of today, a total of 21 individuals have a procedural status as defendants in this criminal case: 6 are under Article 258, Part 4 and Article 316, Part 1, while 15 are under Article 258, Part 3, Clause 1 and Article 316, Part 1. Of the accused, 10 have been placed in custody, 8 under a signature forbidding departure, 2 have been assigned an alternative measure of restraint, and 1 is in hiding.
It remains to be seen the condition of the police officers who were injured and hospitalized on the day of the incident. The Public Relations and Media Department of the Police of Armenia reported that as of today, 8 police officers are undergoing outpatient treatment in the police polyclinic.
