VIDEO: Applause in Parliament Following Gagik Harutyunyan's Resignation

During the parliamentary hearings, the vice-chairman of the Hayastan All-Armenian Congress, Aram Manukyan, began his speech by congratulating the resignation of the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Gagik Harutyunyan. He then spoke about transitional justice.

“This is a specific step towards addressing the issue we have been discussing. Indeed, it is a matter worth congratulating,” he said.

“The third branch of government is clearly sabotaging today. Not addressing this is a crime; the issue is humanitarian, aimed at protecting human rights. All those who are trying to find vendetta here are completely wrong. There is political will, but it is too little to carry the process through to the end,” Manukyan stated.

He proposed several surgical steps to ensure the judicial system operates effectively.

“We have published a book where you will find information and names of all those individuals we want to subject to vetting. There are 42 judges' names here, and 27 prosecutors' names, against whom criminal prosecution must be pursued, not just vetting,” he noted.
