Video: When to Yield or Not to Yield to an Ambulance - Police Clarification
As is known, a major car accident occurred yesterday in the Ararat region. Around 11:30, a collision took place at the intersection of the Artashat highway and 4th Street in the village of Masis between an ambulance driven by 58-year-old Rudik Khachatryan and a truck MAZ 5334 driven by 63-year-old Davit Yeghyan. According to initial reports, there were no injuries as a result of the accident. The police are preparing materials regarding the incident.
According to a statement by Armenia's Health Minister Arsen Torosyan, the preliminary cause of the accident was attributed to the failure to yield to the ambulance.
The head of the traffic police investigation department, Kharatur Samvelyan, provided clarifications today in an interview with SHANTNEWS.am about the legal framework dictating when drivers must yield to ambulances and when they may not.
It is noteworthy that according to traffic regulations, it is not mandatory for an ambulance's sound and light signals to be continuously activated, even while responding to a call or transporting a patient to a hospital.
