Roads Are Closed: What Is the Situation
As of January 16, at 22:30, there are impassable and closed roads in the territory of Armenia. The Vardenyats Pass, the road leading to the village of Charchakis in Aragatsotn Province, and the upper Gegharkunik Province road from Getashen to Madina are closed.
The Sotk-Karvachar road is difficult to traverse. In Shirak Province, the roads from Alagyaz to Artik, in Ashotzk and Amasia, in Aragatsotn Province in the regions of Aparan and Aragats, in Gegharkunik Province on the Sevan-Gavar-Martuni road, and in Syunik Province from Goris to Sisian, there are patches of black ice.
In the area known as “Meghri Sar” in Syunik Province and in the Aparan region of Aragatsotn Province, there is snowfall. Drivers are advised to travel exclusively with winter tires.
According to information received from the Department of Roads under the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia regarding the Lars area, the Stepantsminda-Lars road is closed to all types of vehicles due to the risk of avalanche.
From the information obtained from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia’s North Ossetia Republic, there are currently 97 trucks and 79 passenger cars accumulated on the Russian side.
