The Most Likely Candidate for Armenia's Ambassador in Russia
According to the "Past" newspaper, recent media reports have circulated that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has decided to recall Armenia's extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to Russia, Gurgen Arsenyan. Our sources claim that there are several candidates for the ambassadorial position at present, but the most likely candidate is Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan.
Notably, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan seems to be more inclined to send him to Russia. The reason is that Safaryan, among other responsibilities, effectively coordinates the direction of the Eurasian region (including Russia and other CIS countries). Reports suggest that he has established good connections with Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and other senior representatives in Russian politics and diplomacy.
Moreover, it is interesting that he has been involved in multilateral diplomacy. Recently, he represented Armenia at a panel discussion titled "Multilateral Paths: Restoring Order in Weakening Multilateral Systems" and at a forum in Dubrovnik labeled "Between Power Centers: Lessons from Multivector Diplomacy." Our information indicates that Ararat Mirzoyan has a new candidate for the Deputy Foreign Minister position, although our source did not disclose the name yet.
