What Will Happen if Tigranashen is Handed Over to Azerbaijan: Khachatryan Highlights Dangers
The possibility of Tigranashen coming under Azerbaijani control will directly threaten the security system and disrupt the main transport routes connecting the central and southern parts of Armenia.
Arthur Khachatryan, the secretary of the parliamentary "Armenia" faction, stated during a conversation with reporters at the National Assembly regarding Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statements on border delimitation and enclaves, that relying on the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration as a legal basis for transferring territories is unfounded.
The lawmaker emphasized that Tigranashen is of vital importance to Armenia, and the deployment of an Azerbaijani outpost on the main highway leading south poses enormous risks. He pointed out that the same situation exists for the areas of Barkhudarlu and Sofulu in the northern part.
Khachatryan underscored that ensuring national security entails the unconditional withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops from Armenian sovereign territory, rather than conceding strategic heights and roads under the pretext of demarcation.
He also noted that since 2020, the Armenian side has been steadily ceding territories, whereas no actions have been taken by Azerbaijan towards the liberation of occupied Armenian lands.
