Government Plans to Construct or Renovate About 40 Bridges, Says Pashinyan
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has familiarized himself with the renovation works of the Kyiv Bridge's traffic area, which were completed two weeks ahead of schedule on August 14, instead of the planned August 29. The officials in charge of the project emphasized that the primary goal of all completed works is to enhance traffic safety and ensure more secure and comfortable conditions for citizens.
In particular, deformation joints have been restored, drainage and waterproofing systems have been improved and installed, new galvanized barriers have been set up, and electrical cables from lighting poles have been dismantled and relocated to inspection shafts beneath the sidewalks. The asphalt concrete upper layer has been laid, sidewalks on both sides have been asphalted, and road marking works have been carried out.
A special polymer-concrete material has been used in the deformation joint section, which is being applied in Armenia for the first time. This material is intended to minimize impacts and oscillations during vehicle passage, ensure the safety of bridge operation, and make traffic more comfortable.
By the end of the year, efforts will continue to reinforce and restore damaged sections of the bridge's span arch and supports, along with other planned works, without obstructing traffic.
The Prime Minister has underscored the importance of bridge construction and renovation programs in Armenia, highlighting that the Government plans to construct or renovate around 40 bridges between 2026 and 2031.
The Kyiv Bridge was last renovated in July-August 1995, aimed at resolving drainage issues. The works were undertaken in collaboration with the Yerevan city authorities and the Ministry of Transport and Construction. The renovation has been carried out with a 20-year warranty.
