Georgia Plans to Restore Diplomatic Relations with Russia, Says Saakashvili

Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has announced that the authorities of the country are allegedly preparing to restore diplomatic relations with Russia. He stated this on social media.

"They plan to sign an agreement with Russia, restore diplomatic relations, and create an anti-Western alliance, as well as sign a non-use of force agreement with the authorities of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali," Saakashvili wrote.

According to him, Georgia may also accept a declaration of neutrality.

On August 13, Irakli Kadagishvili, the chairman of the Georgian Parliament's regional policy committee and one of the leaders of the ruling "Georgian Dream" party, stated that manifestations of anti-Russian sentiment represent a threat of confrontation between Moscow and Tbilisi, from which Georgia could suffer seriously.

Previously, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili had stated that the Georgian and Russian peoples should not allow political disagreements between the two countries to turn into hostility between their peoples. At the same time, Garibashvili had previously also spoken about the impossibility of restoring diplomatic relations with Russia under current conditions.
