France Responds to Spain's Withdrawal from the Schengen Agreement

France's Minister of the Interior, Laurent Nunez, responding to the migrant crisis in the Spanish city of Ceuta, stated that Spain's withdrawal from the Schengen Agreement is out of the question. According to Le Parisien, he emphasized that there is 'no question' about it, and that Paris and Madrid are cooperating effectively.

On July 30, thousands of migrants surged from Morocco to Ceuta by sea and land. The city authorities reported 60,000 arrivals, while Spain's Ministry of Interior stated 50,000 had arrived. At least 67 people have died in attempts to reach the Spanish city. According to EFE, approximately 69,500 migrants have been returned to Morocco in the last 30 hours. This figure may include those who arrived before the mass influx on July 30 or individuals who crossed the border more than once.
