The Case of the Conscription Soldier is Under the Spotlight of the Ombudsman

On July 29, Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan visited the Yerevan garrison hospital of the Ministry of Defense. The Defender toured the hospital, meeting with conscripts undergoing treatment in the psychiatric department, assessing their health conditions and treatment progress, and examining the facilities.

Anahit Manasyan emphasized the need to improve the conditions within the psychiatric department. Discussions were held with the medical staff and hospital management regarding various issues related to medical assistance and service for the soldiers, as well as the organization of work in the psychiatric department.

Manasyan underlined the importance of ensuring that soldiers receive medical assistance in proper and dignified conditions. During the visit, private conversations were held with the soldiers in the department, addressing issues related to the provision of medical assistance, living conditions, as well as potential problems arising during service and their solutions.

It is worth noting that a psychiatrist from the Ombudsman's staff also participated in the visit. During the meeting, specific attention was given to questions concerning the rights of conscript soldier A. H., which circulated on social media. Ombudsman Anahit Manasyan, with the participation of the psychiatrist, held a private consultation with the soldier to hear about his concerns.

Medical documents were also reviewed. All issues related to the mentioned soldier are currently being addressed within the scope of jurisdiction. This matter is under the direct attention of the Human Rights Defender. Upon summarizing the findings of the investigation, the Ombudsman’s office will issue additional information regarding the details subject to publication.
