People Have to Travel 15-25 km to Receive Medical Assistance, Says Garnik Danielyan
“In 2020, the maternity ward in the village of Achajur in the Tavush province was closed. It was a leading maternity hospital serving not only the residents of the Ijevan region but also those of Noyemberyan and Berd,” wrote Garnik Danielyan, a member of the 'Armenia' faction, on his Facebook page.
“I have learned that the Achajur hospital has met a similar fate. While it has not been completely shut down, it has been converted into a polyclinic, and nighttime duties have been discontinued. This has created additional inconvenience for the residents of Tavush. Previously, residents of Achajur and nearby villages did not have to travel to Ijevan for health-related issues. Now, our compatriots must cover a distance of 15-25 km to receive medical assistance.
I have repeatedly addressed the issue of the closure of educational institutions and medical centers in communities, its unacceptability, and its disastrous consequences. Due to such policies, thousands of people are deprived of their jobs, either moving to Yerevan or leaving the Republic altogether. Education should be accessible to everyone, whereas the policy of closing schools contradicts this ideology.
Under the guise of optimization, the closure of medical institutions in numerous communities is indicative of the collapse of the healthcare system. If we come to power, all these issues will be revisited; our compatriots living in communities should feel the support of the state behind them. Without strong communities, there is no state, no security, and no future,” wrote Danielyan.
