We Cannot Abandon Communication with Russia: Sijarto
Russia will become a decisive player not only in European but also in global security, and Budapest will not give up communication with Moscow. This was stated by Hungary's Foreign Minister Peter Sijarto.
“We cannot afford to abandon diplomatic avenues, we cannot afford to cut off communication with a country that supplies a significant portion of our energy resources, and with a country that, whether we like it or not, will become a crucial player in global security in the future,” said Sijarto.
The minister rejected criticism from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban regarding his visit to Moscow, emphasizing that the current government is guided solely by national interests in its foreign policy.
“The work of the Prime Minister of Hungary is not to meet the demands of Brussels' liberal mainstream or to dance to Brussels' tune, but to represent the interests of the Hungarian people. He did this in Washington, he did this in Moscow, and he will do this in Brussels,” highlighted Sijarto.
It is noted that last Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Orban. The negotiations in the Kremlin lasted nearly four hours.
