North-South Railway Capacity to Double in Five Years, Says Tokayev
The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, has announced that the annual capacity of the Russia-Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway will reach 20 million tons over the next five years.
In an article published in the 'Rossiyskaya Gazeta', Tokayev emphasized the strategic importance of deepening cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia in the field of transport and logistics.
“Together, we are working to expand the capacity of the eastern branch of the North-South transport corridor, where significant growth in freight transportation is already observed. The Russia-Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway plays a special role in this process. A roadmap has been signed, the implementation of which will increase the capacity of this strategic artery to up to 20 million tons annually in the next five years,” Tokayev wrote.
According to him, the dimensions and geographical position of Kazakhstan and Russia determine the importance of developing transit routes and infrastructure to ensure stable transport links across Eurasia.
