Matiyenko: Armenia's Path to EU Membership is Destructive
Valentina Matviyenko, the Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, has stated that Moscow views Armenia's aspiration to join the European Union as an unfavorable and even "destructive" direction for the republic.
According to RIA Novosti, Matviyenko emphasized that this concern refers to Yerevan's foreign policy choice, highlighting that the Russian side is negatively disposed towards the European integration process and does not consider it to be in Armenia's interests.
It was previously reported that the Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Ruben Rubinyan, had a phone conversation with Valentina Matviyenko. According to the press service of the Armenian National Assembly, the two discussed the agenda of Armenian-Russian inter-parliamentary cooperation, emphasized the importance of continuing dialogue, and addressed several current issues in bilateral relations.
