Arab Countries Oppose the Proposal for a 'New Gaza'
Arab countries have expressed opposition to a proposal presented with the support of the United States that suggests the formation of a 'New Gaza' in areas under Israeli control. According to the Financial Times, several states in the region are concerned that such a move could lead to the long-term division of Palestinian territories.
A source from the publication stated that a project like this could be perceived as an initiative in favor of Israeli interests: 'It would seem as if we are building for Israel, not for the Palestinians. We do not want the Gaza Strip to remain in a state between war and peace, turning into a permanent state of uncertainty.'
Diplomatic sources have also reported that Arab countries are not willing to finance the reconstruction of Gaza under such conditions. Additionally, there is concern that the focus on reconstruction in the Rafah area could lead to a Palestinian exodus towards Egypt.
