Ukrainian Suspected in Nord Stream Explosions Arrested in Italy
A Ukrainian citizen has been arrested in Italy on suspicion of involvement in the explosions of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines. This information was disclosed in a statement by the German Federal Prosecutor's Office.
The prosecutor's office announced: "On the night of August 21, 2025, based on European arrest warrants issued by a federal court judge on August 18, 2025, Ukrainian citizen Sergey K. was arrested in the Rimini region. The man is suspected of being involved in organizing the explosions and carrying out unconstitutional diversions," the statement read.
The German prosecutor's office claims that "Sergey K. was a member of the group that placed explosives on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines in the territorial waters of Bornholm Island in September 2022."
"The arrested individual was allegedly one of the coordinators of the operation. He and his accomplices used a yacht that departed from Rostock as their means of transport," the authorities noted. The yacht had previously been rented from a German company using forged documents, as stated by the prosecutor's office.
The incidents occurred on September 26, 2022. Both pipelines were severely damaged as a result of the explosions," the German prosecutor's office concluded.
