Full Ban on Russian Gas Imports to Be Established
The European Commission has prepared a plan to fully ban the import of Russian gas by the end of 2027, including both pipeline and liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports. According to Reuters, the Commission intends to use legal measures to ensure that Hungary and Slovakia cannot obstruct the ban.
The document will state that the European Union aims to enshrine the commitment to cease purchasing energy resources from Russia in law. It is worth recalling that this commitment was made back in 2022, following Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine.
