Zelensky Makes Statement Ahead of Negotiations
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed doubts about Russia's readiness for effective negotiations in Istanbul but has hoped that both parties can reach "some solutions." His remarks were quoted by LRT.
"Our delegation is in Istanbul. This morning I spoke with the Minister of Defense; they are preparing for the meeting. I am not confident that Russia will be ready for effective meetings. But we must always believe in some solutions," Zelensky said.
According to him, Kyiv's priorities are a complete ceasefire and the return of prisoners of war.
The second round of direct negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv is set to start in Turkey on June 2. The Russian delegation, led by presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, has already arrived in Istanbul. The parties will present drafts of their memoranda regarding a ceasefire.
