Ukraine Will Not Do This: We Will Not Make Concessions, Says Zelensky
Ukraine will not withdraw its troops from its territories, announced President Volodymyr Zelensky following a phone conversation between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to dw.com, Zelensky stated in a press briefing, "If Russia sets conditions for our troops to leave our land, it means they do not want the war to end. They clearly understand that Ukraine will not do this."
Zelensky emphasized that it is his constitutional duty to continue the defense of the country. "There will be no ultimatums; no one will concede their land, their people, or their homes," he stressed.
The Ukrainian president also mentioned that Trump stated Russia is ready for compromises. For the White House, the most important thing is for Kyiv and Moscow to begin direct negotiations. Meanwhile, Zelensky expressed a desire to see a ceasefire as the first step towards ending the war since it would reflect Russia's genuine willingness for a peaceful resolution.
Zelensky noted that Kyiv is awaiting the Russian version of an agreement, the signing of which Trump discussed with Putin. "An agreement that will be supported by both or the two countries, which also includes a ceasefire. If Russia proposes this agreement, we will be able to articulate our vision for it," he added.
The Ukrainian president also revealed that after the conversation with Putin, Trump called him to share the details of the negotiations.
