Robert Kocharian Should Be Grateful to Serge Sargsyan, Aram Sargsyan
Robert Kocharian could not have avoided granting political succession to Serge Sargsyan. Simply put, he couldn't. Kocharian, who has remained in power since the events of October 27, 1999, must be thankful to Sargsyan. Who else was there to whom he could have handed over power?
This was stated by Aram Zaven Sargsyan, the president of the 'Republic' party, in an interview with Public Television.
“Kocharian had no backing. He had no party, nor did the people belong to his party. Even today, in these elections, the reason he gathered so many votes was that Serge Sargsyan did not put forward his candidacy. If Serge Sargsyan runs for the 2026 elections, he will definitely garner more votes than Robert Kocharian,” he said.
