EU Leaders Plead with Trump to Reach Out to Putin
US President Donald Trump, in an interview with NBC News, stated that leaders of the European Union have asked him to call Russian President Vladimir Putin to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, as the Russian president allegedly has not been responding to their calls.
“You know, the EU leaders have begged me so much to call Putin because he isn’t answering their calls,” Trump said.
Earlier this week, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov announced that an indication of willingness for direct negotiations should come from Kyiv, but so far, Moscow has seen no action. Peskov mentioned that President Putin had previously confirmed the Russian side's readiness to negotiate with Ukraine without preconditions with the special envoy of the US president, Stephen Vitko.
