I Would Like to Be the Pope: Trump
US President Donald Trump joked that he would like to become the new Pope of Rome. He made this statement during a conversation with reporters.
“I would like to be the Pope. That would be my number one choice,” Trump said.
He added that he has no preference among the possible candidates for the papacy.
The conclave, during which a new Pope will be elected, is scheduled to take place on May 7. To win the position of leader of the Roman Catholic Church, candidates must secure two-thirds of the votes from 138 Cardinals.
According to the Vatican’s rules, the election of a new Pope must begin no sooner than 15 days and no later than 20 days after the previous Pope’s departure. Pope Francis passed away on April 21 at the age of 88.
