The second goal of the match became the 894th for Ovechkin in the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season. The game ended with a score of 5:3 in favor of the home team.

After matching Gretzky's record, Ovechkin made his first comment: “It’s hard to say anything. So many emotions.” Previously, only Canadian Wayne Gretzky had achieved such a result. He became the record holder in 1994, and his last 894th goal was scored in 1999. Since then, his record was considered unattainable.
