Hockey Player Ovechkin Matches Canadian Record
Alexander Ovechkin, the captain of the Washington Capitals and a symbol of Russian hockey, scored two goals in the game against the Chicago Blackhawks, matching the record for goals held by Canadian Wayne Gretzky. The second goal of the match became the 894th for Ovechkin in the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season. The game ended with a score of 5:3 in favor of the home team.
After matching Gretzky's record, Ovechkin made his first comment: “It’s hard to say anything. So many emotions.” Previously, only Canadian Wayne Gretzky had achieved such a result. He became the record holder in 1994, and his last 894th goal was scored in 1999. Since then, his record was considered unattainable.
