Opening of Armenia's Borders with Turkey and Azerbaijan Will Change the Situation: Ursula
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, spoke at the EU-Central Asia summit about the geopolitical and economic significance of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
Von der Leyen stated that this corridor will play a crucial role in strengthening relations between Europe and the five Central Asian countries. According to the 'APA' agency, she said, 'In a fragmented world, the Trans-Caspian transport corridor will strengthen the ties between your countries (the five Central Asian states) and Europe.'
She also emphasized the importance of simplifying border crossings for the effectiveness of this corridor: 'Border crossings with both Central Asian and South Caucasian countries are essential for access to the Black Sea.'
The President of the European Commission also addressed the issue of opening the Armenia-Turkey border. She noted that the opening of Armenia's borders with Turkey and Azerbaijan after 30 years could radically change the situation. 'This will bring Europe and Central Asia closer together than ever before,' the European Commission President remarked.
