Masked Individuals Assault Life Sentenced Prisoners in Nubarashen Penitentiary: Ombudsman
On April 3, the Human Rights Defender received a call on its hotline reporting that masked individuals had assaulted life sentenced prisoners at the Nubarashen penitentiary. This was announced by the Ombudsman of Armenia.
Monitoring of social media and mass media reports has also revealed that no medical assistance is being provided to the inmates.
Following the Defender's directive, a rapid response team was dispatched to the Nubarashen penitentiary to familiarize themselves with the issues raised and conduct private conversations with those sentenced to life imprisonment.
Materials related to the reported incident are also being reviewed by the Defender’s office.
Auroranews contacted Nona Navikyana, the head of the public relations department of the penitentiary service, who stated that clarifications will be provided soon.
