Canada Responds with Tariffs Against the U.S.
In response to U.S. President Donald Trump's imposition of 25% tariffs on Canadian goods, Canada is enacting equal tariffs on American products. This was announced by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who warned Americans that Trump's actions will have real consequences for them.
During a press conference in Ottawa, Trudeau stated that tariffs will be levied on American goods, set to take effect on Tuesday. He also noted that the coming weeks will be difficult for Canadians, but that Americans will also suffer due to Trump's actions.
It's worth remembering that Trudeau's announcement comes just hours after Trump announced 25% tariffs on Canadian and Mexican imports and 10% tariffs on Chinese goods, raising the prospect of a trade war that economists warn could slow global growth and fuel inflation. Trump has declared a 10% tariff on all energy imports from Canada.
