Commander of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham's Military Wing Appointed as Syria's Defense Minister
In the transitional government established in Syria, Murhaf Abu Kasran has been appointed as the head of the Ministry of Defense. This was reported by the country's Suria television channel.
The new defense minister is also known by the alias Abu al-Hasan al-Hamawi. According to the Syrian publication 'Al Watan', Abu Kasran served as the commander of the military wing of the group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, which has seized control of the country's largest cities, including Damascus, earlier this month, overthrowing President Bashar al-Assad's regime.
Previously, the head of the new authorities in Damascus, Ahmad al-Sharaan, also known as Abu Muhammad al-Joulani, announced that various Syrian armed groups would unite under a single structure under the control of the Ministry of Defense.
