Yerevan Municipality Issues Statement on Expected Heavy Rainfall
According to a statement from the State Hydro-Meteorological and Monitoring Center, heavy rainfall is expected late evening on October 16 and on October 17, continuing into the night of the 17th to the 18th. This was announced by the press secretary of the Yerevan Mayor, Hayk Kostanyan.
Specifically, in Yerevan, rainfall is predicted to reach 100-150% of the norm for October.
In this regard, both the Veolia water company and the Yerevan Municipality, as collaborative entities, have initiated preventive measures to mitigate the impact of the anticipated rainfall, which will also involve the municipal services department of the Yerevan Municipality.
From this evening, duty operations will be established in the administrative districts to enable quick responses to potential flooding and to address localized issues.
As support to prevent possible blockages in drainage systems and rainwater collectors, human resources from the Yerevan Community Waste Collection and Sanitation Enterprise will also be involved in the process. Forces from the Community Landscaping and Environmental Protection organization will also participate in the efforts.
Drivers are advised to use personal vehicles only when absolutely necessary during the rainfall periods.
