Explosion in Mine: Dozens Dead and Injured in Iran
A gas explosion in a coal mine in South Khorasan province, Iran, has resulted in the deaths of at least 30 people, with 17 others injured. 24 individuals are still reported missing.
The incident occurred yesterday evening in two blocks of the Tabas coal mine. According to agency reports, there were 69 miners working in the area at the time of the explosion. Local authorities have warned that the number of casualties may increase as some individuals could be trapped under the rubble.
Emergency responders, including 40 rescue workers and 13 ambulances, are currently on the scene. The explosion did not lead to a fire; however, methane emissions in the tunnels caused suffocation among the miners.
