Video: Court Dismisses Alec Baldwin's Involuntary Manslaughter Case; Actor Breaks Down in Tears
The court in New Mexico, USA, has dismissed the case against American actor Alec Baldwin. According to RIA Novosti, Baldwin accidentally shot and killed 42-year-old Halyna Hutchins during the filming of 'Rust' on October 21, 2021, leaving director Joel Souza seriously injured.
In January, New Mexico's prosecution charged Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed with involuntary manslaughter. "The court has granted Baldwin's lawyers' motion to dismiss the case without the right to review," the judge announced.
Following the verdict, Baldwin broke down in tears in the courtroom. His attorneys sought to dismiss the case, arguing that the prosecution had withheld information related to the weapon involved in the incident. According to the court's ruling, the prosecution cannot approach the same court again with the same charges.
Prosecutors claimed Baldwin exhibited irresponsible behavior while handling the firearm on set and showed negligence in checking the weapon's safety. Baldwin's attorneys rejected these claims, stating that the gun handed to Baldwin was deemed completely safe by participants of the filming. Furthermore, two individuals responsible for the weapon on set had previously accepted their guilt.
During the trial, Baldwin maintained that he did not pull the trigger of the gun, but only cocked it, which could have inadvertently caused the shot to fire.
